Reflective Practice

Experience alone does not necessarily lead to learning; it is important to intentionally reflect on experience.

Reflective practice is the abiity to reflect on one’s actions so as to take a critical stance or attitude towards one’s own practice engaging in a process of continuous adaptation and learning.

Reflective practice can be an important tool where people learn from their own professional experiences, rather than from formal learning or knowledge transfer. It may be the most important source of personal professional development and improvement by bringing together theory and practice.

While reflecting on past actions and events, one takes a conscious look at emotions, experiences, actions, and responses, and adds this information to existing knowledge base to reach a higher level of understanding.

It is a wonderful opportunity to use Coaching Supervision as a safe and trusting environment for reflection about your coaching practice. The International Coaching Foundation (ICF) recommend that because of the complex dynamics of team coaching, it is important that practitioners engage in guided reflective practice for development and support.
