Embrace your Uniqueness!

Managing yourself and your wellbeing begins with knowing who you are!

In 2009 I embarked on a business course through UNISA which included “Essentials of Self-Management” as one of the modules. Thus begun the journey of discovering how important it was to lead and manage myself by developing certain areas of my life. I learned that when I managed myself well I was better equipped to manage myself in my relationships and it enabled me to be a better leader. My coaching journey (being coached and the coach training) supported my growth and development as it helped me apply the learning.

I hope to share with others what I learned from my own self-discovery journey.

We cannot give to another person what we ourselves have not experienced.

Self-Awareness: Discovering who you are!

Conscious knowledge of one’s own character and feelings. Ability to focus on yourself and how your actions, thoughts or emotions do or don’t align with your internal standards. Highly self-aware people can objectively evaluate themselves, manage their values and understand correctly how others perceive them.

Personal Empowerment develops Emotional Intelligence.

If you had to write out a mission statement that starts “I would like to be remembered as someone who ………………… what would it say?

Self-Acceptance: Accepting who you are!

An individual’s satisfaction or happiness with oneself, which is necessary for mental health. It involves understanding yourself, a realistic and subjective awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, regardless of past behaviours and choices. Global affirmation of self, able to embrace all facets of yourself – positive and negative.

Most people don’t utilise their full potential because they are never happy with themselves, and have low self-acceptance.

Self-Assurance: Being assured of your abilities and capabilities

Confidence in one’s own abilities and character. Confidence in what one says or does because they are sure of their abilities.

To listen better, silence your mind, eliminate distractions, control the emotions, and focus solely on the speaker. Become aware of how you listen, improve your listening habits and co-create conversations. Start today!

Self-Actualisation: Desiring progress and success

The realisation or fulfilment of one’s talents and potential. It refers to a person’s desire for self-fulfilment, self-success.

Self-Success is an attitude and a state of mind. Your success should never be determined by the approval or recognition of others. We all determine what success looks like for ourselves.

How would you define success for yourself?

In Conclusion

Awareness, Acceptance, Assurance, and Actualisation of self takes dedication, discipline, and determination. It takes courage and an action plan to set goals towards achieving your dreams and aspirations. This is the reason that self-control, good judgment, controlled emotions, and common sense are essential.

Let us talk about it, if this will help.
